'English, please' 'Where would you like it, Sir?'

Faffing around with my laptop the other day, I went to download and re-install the latest version of iTunes.
Yes, OK, OK, I agree, uncheck box, check box, OK.... select language - it gives me a drop-down box. Afrikaans, Albanian, Arabic... Burmese... C, D for Deutsch ... ah English. It gave me the following options:
  • English (US)
And that was it. Not a hint of English (UK), English (Blighty), English (England), or even English (so-fucking-northern-it-may-as-well-be-Geordie)

It's not a gripe at the language, though. It's a gripe at those dozy Yanks across the pond, no offence. If there had been more than one option, then sure - have your (US), (UK) and (AU) ducks all in a row. However, there weren't. So why bother specifying? It's not as if iTunes is stuffed full of faucets, diapers and elevators.

Maybe it's American Spite; to make the user ensure that they remember who created this program. Possibly they had intended to make future variations of iTunes in Canadian, Singaporean and Irish. Could have been some non-sensical corporate decision. Mayhap they did it just for the sake of it. Or perchance the complete opposite; they just didn't think, becuase but of course the world revolves around those blinkered 50 states.

Sod it. Next time I'll just stick 10p in the Wurlitzer.

This annoys me too, I'm sure you can imagine. It's just the fact that they bastardise our language and then not even give you any option to use our language in all of its greatness.

Americanisation of our language is one of my biggest pet hates.

That's why I used to take great pleasure, working behind a bar, when people would ask "can i get a Fosters please?" and I'd promptly reply "no, you wait there, I'll get you one!"

They never got it. Illiterate swines.

This bugs me too. Just after I first read this, Facebook asked me to help translate Facebook for English (UK).
